April 2021 “Sustainability” Business Specific Grant Awarded to Lani & Kai

Lani & Kai

Woman Entrepreneur:
Robyn Fukumoto & Sam Juraschka

Congratulations to Robyn Fukumoto and Sam Juraschka, Founders of Lani & Kai for being the WomensNet $5,000 April Business Specific Grant recipients in the category of “Sustainability.”

Lani & Kai is an all natural, 100% chemical-free, mineral sunscreen created to help save the coral reefs. “We’ve perfected our sustainable formula, gotten FDA approval, hold a registered LLC in Hawaii, designed and printed packaging that reduces 60% of non-recyclable plastics, and have sold out of our initial runs online and in stores. We’re in 12 retail locations, including the largest Hawai’i hotel chains, and are in talks with major grocery stores.”

The Business Specific Grant will allow them the funds to continue to market their product. “In order to truly scale and offer the product volume and pricing needed to get to the next level, we need funding to allow us to order larger quantities of product. Being a completely self funded start-up with a focus on giving back, we’ve shied away from taking VC funding that would overly emphasize growth at all costs and have limited resources for large and new product orders,” says Fukumoto.

We hope Lani & Kai continue their mission to save the coral reefs.

Reminder that the category of the $5,000 Business Specific Grant in May is “Mental and Emotional Support”. If you applied for an Amber Grant in 2021 and your business is related to mental and emotional support, you’re eligible to win the $5,000. If you’re going to apply in May, you’re eligible to win both the $10,000 Amber Grant as well as the $5,000 Business Specific Grant.
