February 2023 Health & Wellness Grant Awarded to The Birthing Place

The Birthing Place

Woman Entrepreneur:
Myla Flores

Congratulations to Myla Flores, founder of The Birthing Place, located in the Bronx, NY. She is the recipient of the $10,000 February Health & Wellness Business Specific Grant. And is now eligible to win the Year-End grant of an additional $25,000!

Here is some of what Myla had to share with us:The Birthing Place (TBP) is a team of experienced BIPOC doulas and birth professionals who came together in 2020… Our goal is to create a sanctuary that offers personalized loving support for the planning, expectant, and newly-blossomed family…. TBP is a business that will help save or substantially improve hundreds of lives for some of our city’s most vulnerable populations, and create future birth stories of hope and empowerment, rather than of despair and loss.

Maintaining our clear vision to open a birth center in the Bronx, TBP is moving through key phases: (1) education, (2) wellness, (3) birth. Until we can build a brick and mortar birth center, Womb Bus, our wellness hub on wheels, functions as TBP’s vehicle through which we can reach our community with critical services more immediately. Through Womb Bus, we provide perinatal support, preconception education, reproductive counseling, and increased access to nutrition counseling, mental health support, and supplementary bodywork modalities.
At the Womb Bus, wellbeing looks like community support: We are proud to be a trusted health & wellness hub for families to connect to reproductive resources and education. We choose to bring Womb Bus to neighborhoods statistically known to suffer the greatest maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. We are literally driving our mission forward, as we enter a transition phase toward providing direct reproductive, well-person and clinical care to the families we serve. We envision this will lead to our ultimate goal of building a birth center on land allocated for the future existence of The Birthing Place.
